In addition to the confound you mention (presence of non-residents), I’d guess there is another problem with this statement: aren’t the ‘victims’ of a significant percentage of property crimes in the Loop actually businesses? So asserting an individual is more likely to become a victim there would be misleading based on those numbers.

Obviously there are other issues, such as the differential likelihood of a crime being reported.

In any case, I think most intelligent people know why Hyde Park or Uptown have a reputation as ‘dangerous’ among certain members of the condo-buying public; many of those people imagine even very wealthy neighborhoods with significant black population are fantastically dangerous. They’d be frightened out of their minds by even the chichiest sections of South Shore & Chatham. I imagine your post attempts to counteract this with some objective evidence. Good luck!
